Biden's First Press Conference
President Biden's first press conference took a bit longer to happen than for previous President's and no one is quite sure why. He waited longer than any modern president to hold his first solo press conference which thus made the media even more high-profile on the event than they would have been otherwise. Biden pressed on child migrants at our border, the vaccine for COVID-19, even more on immigration, Afghanistan and China, problems with our infrastructure, and a few more points were made.
Something I found to be interesting is that he didn't really take questions at the end from the press...something President Trump never missed an opportunity to do. It sure will be interesting to keep an eye on the new conferences and see where his public speaking skills can improve, if they do, and if he can speak from a more confident place overall.
I agree the interaction between Biden and the press so far has been...strange, to say the least. I touched on it in a comment on a different blog, but his not holding press conferences until now is a bad omen for press relations with this administration. However, this has not translated to a negative relationship as of yet, so I'm curious what is going on behind the scenes. Maybe the press is just happy to have someone that doesn't attack or ban them, so they will take what they can get.

ReplyDeleteI do not think anyone is not “quite sure why” President Biden has waited so long to give his first press conference or why he did not take many questions. It is becoming quite clear that President Biden is suffering from physical and cognitive decline. Just a few weeks ago he fell several times ascending the stairs to Air Force One, and you do not have to listen to him speak any longer than a few sentences to hear him mumble, fumble, misuse, mispronounce, and all together forget words or even entire sentences. If I were the Biden’s media team, I would also have definitely waited as long as possible before I put him in front of a camera and sharp, questioning journalists. It is truly unfortunate that this is the case, but as time goes on, it is becoming undeniable and seriously concerning.
Hey Dasha,
ReplyDeleteI agree it is odd for a President to wait so long to give their first press conference, if it were me I would want to talk to the press as soon as possible during a time life this in order to keep the general public up to date on how our country is handing the pandemic. In my opinion, I believe the reason that President Biden has waited to long to do a press conference and did not answer questions at the end is because he is not longer fully mentally fit to do so. It is sad to see Biden in such a bad mental state, and I do believe he has dementia. I do not mean that as an attack on Biden it is just an observation and one that I believe needs to be made since he is the leader of the free world.
