New York Dining is BACK (or is it?)

It is not news to anyone that New York City has taken quite a big hit in terms of how heavily the city and the people there have been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  Their governor, Andrew Cuomo,  just recently announced that indoor dining will open up another 35% capacity, since it is simply too unbearably cold out to sit in their makeshift "indoor outdoor" dining homes anymore.

What this means in terms of politics?  Well, this would have a direct effect on people's livelihoods of whom own and operate these various restaurants.  They have taken a massive financial hit during these times and it would be a great economic boost for those in the city whose only income is off of these restaurant sales.  While following the health guidelines in place, of course, I think this is a step in the right direction for New York City and hopefully it will go right back to the "city that never sleeps" that everyone has known it to be.

  1. Great post Daniela! It's great to see that Cuomo has FINALLY re-opened indoor dinning. So many businesses have been struggling and like you said New York City is not a place were outside dinning is doable right now. I hope they keep it open and slowly increase the capacity allowed. It might finally bring some much needed stability back to the city!

  2. It's kinda concerning to see things opening back up seeing how the pandemic hasn't died down anytime soon. But, there is money to be made. New York has been seen as a shining example of how to handle the pandemic. Many seem to believe that Cuomo knows what he is doing and that he is a responsible leader. I do agree that opening indoor dining would give these restaurants a chance to make more money and recover from the economic downturn last year.

  3. New York is definitely one of the US cities that has been hit the hardest by Covid-19, whether that is due to the huge population, denial of covid itself, or just bad work by Cuomo is still up in the air. I do think this is a step in the right direction however. While this pandemic has caused a lot of heartbreak and grief, it is still important for people to live their lives and go out (while being safe of course). This entire situation is very odd, because if it works it will be attributed to the citizens and staff of businesses doing a good job at following the CDC guidelines. However, if it goes wrong and more individuals get Covid, then all of the blame will be put on Cuomo, which isn't truly fair but it is how our society works. Here's to this plan being successful!
